Growing Pains - Kirk Cameron Still Has A Lot Of Growing To Do

Napoleon once said: "La religion est ce qui empêche les pauvres de tuer les riches" (Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich).
In other words, religion is for those who “drink the Kool-Aid” (and we all know how that ended for the followers of members of the Peoples Temple in the November 1978 Jonestown Massacre).
Not to be deterred, '80s sitcom star turned religious activist Kirk Cameron is isn't shy about sharing his feelings about religion, specifically Homosexuality.

During the now infamous interview with Piers Morgan the "Growing Pains" "heartthrob" who transitioned from a "teen-idol" "in Hollywood and became a devoted follower of Jesus Christ in the middle of [his] career" explained that he believes homosexuality is "unnatural... I think that it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
So homosexuals are unnatural (notwithstanding that homosexuality has been around since “Adam and Steve”) and homosexuality is “destructive to … civilization?”
You have to ask why he would condemn a group of people and call them destructive.  It seems a harsh judgment (“Judge not least you be judged?”) which subjects a subset of Americans to attacks and personal hatred for simply being who they are.  So why?
Cameron: “I'm a Bible-believing Christian.”  ...  "Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part.” (Let's not forget that talking snake!)
But of course; the Bible.  But I am confused as to which portions of the Bible he "believes?"  The only provision of the bible which addresses Homosexuality is in the Old Testament; (Leviticus 18:22); yet, he doesn't seem to follow many of the other provisions of the Old Testament.
Does he condemn himself for not wearing all white clothes (Ecclesiastes 9:8: “Let your garments be always white.”)?  And he clearly doesn't have a beard (Leviticus 19:27 states: "Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard").  So is he just picking and choosing which rules he likes and which ones he doesn't?  Click HERE for more on The Guide For Going To Hell For Kirk and Other Christians!
Maybe he self-flagellated after the show to make up for his condemnations (Matthew 7:12 “So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.”).
The real reason he was on the “talk-shows” was to sell his new movie. Yes money! He wants to make money and is schlepping his new movie. He has gone from selling a goofy character in a 80's situation comedy to now selling "GOD."
Isn’t it interesting that his discovery of “faith” was at the same time he failed as an actor in Hollywood.  He claims that at 17 he was an atheist (I wonder if at 17 he actually believed he was an Atheist and understood what that meant, or whether he simply says that he was so that he can "put down" Atheist for knowing less than he now knows and believes).

In a recent interview with Ramin Setoodeh (a senior writer at Newsweek), Mr. Cameron tells Ramin Setoodeh why Morgan was ‘insensitive’ and ‘heartless’ and how he really feels about gay people (of course he loves all people).  There he goes once again, judging (Morgan) and calling him names.  Not very biblical.  So what does he tell Ramin when he asks Cameron why Cameron thinks that he is a sinner at 17 and whether he was promiscuous?
"GOP's new POSTER BOY
for HATE AGENDA." (He looks very tough.)
"No. I think God was saving me from a lot of trouble, without me even knowing it, which was really cool. It was like helping someone who doesn’t even acknowledge your existence. I think my biggest problem was as a celebrity on a TV show, you get an inflated ego and you think you’re the center of the universe."

I think it is “really cool” how “God” wanted to keep the washed up sit-com star out of trouble.  And as for the “ego,” it seems alive and well (hawking his book on all the network shows, including Piers and the Today Show).  Also, Cameron speaks of how “he knows,” and how “God” has spoken to him.
For his part, Piers Morgan has clarified why he objects to what Cameron said.  In a tweet, Piers Morgan said:
@piersmorgan  Re #KirkCameron, I respect his religious beliefs - just don't respect his use of bigoted, inflammatory language re homosexuality. End.
I agree with Piers.  Not simply did Cameron say that he objected to homosexuality because of his religious believes, he went on to condemn them and blame them for causing the destruction of society.
Perhaps he should re-read his bible.  Psalms 34:13: "Keep your tongue from evil …"
In Hebrew, evil tongue is called Lashon hara, and rabbis compare it to murder.  And as Paul said in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only which is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Cameron has stated that he believes that the Piers Morgan show was not the proper forum to discuss such issues; yet, Cameron did not hesitate to use such hate-filled words.  Maybe he should read Ephesians 4:29.
What is more destructive is a "celebrity poster boy" spreading archaic words from multiple different books written thousands of years ago and emphatically stating that it (the Bible) is the word of "God" and those that don't believe as does he are "unnatural" and responsible for the destruction of civilization.  Who anointed Kirk "God?"
It is a long road from being a teenage "poster boy" to becoming the poster boy for God-fearing Christians, but Mr. Cameron still has some growing pains.

  1. Why would anyone listen to a celbutarde he bombed out of Hollywood and now preaches hate?

Happy that he and his wife have six kids and are living such a wholesome life. Leave the rest of us alone.

  2. My advice to Mike Seaver is to book a one way ticket to Iran. They too embrace not separating church and state.

  3. All wars start with God.

Rather, all wars throughout history start with one’s interpretation of their God and its power. No peace treaties were ever held up in the name of God (hello Israel and Palestine), no New World was ever built on love, rather always on mass murder, and assuredly, in the name of a God or another.

I was actually one of the very few who had watched that interview with K. Cameron. And no other statement, apologies, or word manipulations are ever going to convince me that Kirk Cameron did not spew hateful words that day. With shining eyes, and a rigid jaw of the religious zealot’s entitlement.

What Kirk Cameron needs to understand is that everyone has a different interpretation of what is God. Of what God wants. And of course, of what God intends for us as a people.

All these interpretations are driven by one’s personal need. They all come from a place of selfishness, and self-serving neediness. None EVER come from a place of selflessness.

You know what comes from a place of selflessness? Is when a mother is pleading and praying for her children. She’s not praying for a God that would agree with her ideologies and turn them into righteous law for all mankind. She is praying selflessly for her children’s well being.

Stop thinking that your God is better than mine. History has proven us both wrong, over and over again. God has no place in human law. It has only place in human pain and suffering. And from that place, it sometimes finds true love and peace.

Why is this country going backwards I’d never understand. Iran is just another example of a country, who 80 years ago, when one of peace and moderation, got conned into electing a freakishly hateful priest. Look where it had gotten them today. Always in the name of God. Tired of the bible fucking with human life.

  4. “I believe in the bible”, to me is like saying “I believe in comic books.” But that’s just me…

In addition, I think ‘hate the sin not the sinner’ is still letting them off easy since there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Grossed out by it? That’s totally fine, to each their own. I get grossed out when I see my cat licking it’s own a$$, but that doesn’t make it wrong.

These nut jobs drive me crazy. Brooke

  5. Uh….since I think biblical christianity is WAY more dangerous and scary than homosexuality, I DON’T think homosexuals should be tolerant. They they should run as fast as they can, as far as they can, just like the rest of us. Ruphis

  7. I have no problem with religion and think it is a great comfort to people who turn to it in the gravest of times, sean so eloquently and specifically says that you can't be a hypocrite because it goes against all the teaching of Jesus, sean says here that Cameron is a phony and greed and hate not so much in the ten commandments.

I have said it before on this blog I think the reason Cameron and Santorum, "the gentelmen thow protests to much" about their own sexuality and btw Cameron u may b blessed in this life but you are screwed in the next

  8. I like how people are surprised the Christian fanatic is against homosexuality, that's like being suprised his holyness described gay marriage as the end of human civilization a few months back
as for Christianity, they claim to emulate an all loving messai, and yet all they seem to do these days is spew hate too those who even slightly disagree with their supooadly correct.
but in the end i respect mr. kamrins right to be a close minded bigot as he would respect mine to be an open minded liberal, or so he should if he respects freedom of speech, hm... another subject Christians probably don't like
victims of Christian anti free speech
    Galileo, Newton, etc. etc.

  9. Did anyone who believes this folklore literally ever wonder who had sex with their mother first, Cain or Abel, since she was the only woman around? Unless there was a sister or two they never mention. It would explain the whole weird fight and then murder of Abel that happens in this disfunctional family. Jenny NYC

  10. It's amazing! Religion it's supposed to make us better persons. But when you listen to people quote scripture and use it against people that doesn't necessarily share they're views...

  11. The difference between opinion and hate speech. Saying you don't agree with gay marriage is an opinion. Saying homosexuality is "unnatural... I think that it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization." with no supporting evidence is hate speech.

  12. Piers Morgan was way out of line the way he sought to condemn Kirk for his beliefs. Thats typical of leftist elitists. They think they're better than everyone else and treat them like inferiors. I'm glad Kirk didn't take it lying down. His comments were precise, to the point and a reflection of core Christian values not extremism.
    God bless Kirk. JUjU-bean

  13. Piers Morgan condemned Kirk because Kirk is a horrible human being. Tracy Boston, MA

  14. TRACY: When you say Kirk is a horribel human being. You say all people of faith are horrible people. It is clear that you liberals are extremely bigoted against people of faith and thats pretty sad. You say Christians go around calling people names but you got right back and do the same thing. You people are hypocrites plain and simple. JUjU-bean

  15. First of all prove how is Christianity any better than Islam in its core thinking. Then only condemn Islam. If LGBT people in America are unnatural to Christians then on the same line non-Muslims in Muslim countries are unnatural for Muslims. So why do Christians in America criticize Muslims who persecute Christians in Islamic countries while they are following their Allah's word? This is called hypocrisy. The only difference is Islamic societies are made of majority people like Kirk Cameron and in America they are minority.

  16. Jesus Christ gives people a choice to come to him Islam gives no choices. I also find you comparing fellow Americans who are people of faith to barbaric murdering extremists extremely offensive. No woman is stoned to death in this country. No one is lashed or killed for fornication. No is murdered for preaching another religion. No one is murdered for being an apostate. The list goes on and on.
I think you need to look at the facts and the fact is Muslims believe in killing people who are different, Christians do not. In Sharia if you do not accept Allah you are inferior. In Christianity you are free to choose whether you want Christ in your heart or not.

Christianity has a violent past but it has moved on. And to compare present day mothers and fathers and children to monsters over there who murder without reason is downright offensive and reveals your bigotry.

  17. I have to wonder at why American's insist on caring about the moronic "insight" of a failed 1980's teen actor from sitcom. The man is nothing? If we are going to debate these issues lets at least look to people who have some degree of expertise or knowledge, not just some rather sad claims to fame. Maher
