In an article by Evelyne Pringle (http://www.counterpunch.org/pringle04212010.html) she writes:
Of all the harmful actions of modern psychiatry, "the mass diagnosing and drugging of children is the most appalling with the most serious consequences for the future of individual lives and for society," warns the world-renowned expert, Dr Peter Breggin, often referred to as the "Conscience of Psychiatry."
We're bringing up a generation in this country in which you either sit down, shut up and do what you're told, or you get diagnosed and drugged," he points out.Read that again - We're bringing up a generation in this country in which you either sit down, shut up and do what you're told, or you get diagnosed and drugged.
The sad thing, is it is true. Somewhere, our schools, have lost patience with our children. We put them on mind-altering drugs, but for what reason? It seems that the only real reason is to make them easier with which to deal. Drug em and shut them up.
Is this really necessary?

ReplyDeleteMy daughter take Ritalin, It has helped her in school a great deal. I do worry about her interpersonal relations though. She seems just a little too ok playing by herself , all of the time. I do not know if she would be this way with or without the drug.
